We are delighted to launch the Winter 06 collection by artist Mackenzie Thorpe, featuring four superb new images and a fantastic new sculpture.
When Mackenzie first started thinking about 'This Is All My Love' he visualised it
white, almost marble like, with no colour...
"I wanted to take it down to its bare essentials, to encourage
people to see the shapes and shadows the piece creates, within
the space it occupies."
To achieve this it has been cast in Parian, a creamy white material used during the
mid to late nineteenth century as a marble substitute for making vases and busts
of famous figures. Mackenzie first came across it in a studio in the Far East and fell
in love with its subtle finish and the way Parian naturally reflects light.
Using a 'naked' surface to communicate the work's message means it is inevitable
that people will relate to the piece on an individual and personal manner.
"Some people may enjoy the smooth subtleness of the piece,
whilst others may struggle with a perceived absence of colour,
others may quite naturally choose to project colour onto the
piece. However people respond to any piece of work is up to that
individual, there are no rights or wrongs in that, it is really down
to each person. I hope the simplicity of this piece gives people the
confidence to enjoy a personal response."
These four beautiful images and sculpture are now available from Washington Green Partnership Galleries.
