Mackenzie Thorpe Game of Life Tour Storms The UK.

Mackenzie Thorpe’s recent touring exhibition “The Game of Life” has been accredited as one of the largest ever touring art events. Paintings inspired by football and its impact across generations were translated to a collection of 20 limited works on paper with complementary sculpture and memorabilia.

The event featured in over 95 galleries between April and July and culminated in an auction of 55 original works at the Royal Lancaster Hotel on Sunday 15th June 2003. The success of this tour was unprecedented, Mackenzie himself making 33 appearances in galleries nation-wide. The closing auction was attended by over 1000 people who witnessed the sale of the paintings and a surprise appearance by George Best who acclaimed Mackenzie’s work as some of the best he had ever seen and unique in capturing the spirit of football.

Throughout the last decade, the work of Mackenzie Thorpe has reflected social realism. From his iconic subject matter the lives of working people have always featured strongly in his paintings. It was with this in mind that Mackenzie conceived the Game of Life.

Mackenzie continues to be the most collectable painter in Britain and as many visitors to galleries will know acquiring his editions is a competitive game!! Mackenzie’s latest releases can be seen together with a selection of older works in his collection on this site.
